Hemp PR Case Study | Carolindica | Virgo PR

Carolindica needed to be more than a consumer cannabis brand. Virgo built a two-track program that made the company a credible voice on hemp policy while putting its products in front of consumers, generating 119 tracked earned media placements.

The Challenge

As a North Carolina-based hemp company operating in an increasingly complex regulatory environment, Carolindica needed to establish itself as more than a consumer cannabis brand. The company needed a clear, credible voice on the future of hemp while continuing to build awareness around its growing portfolio of consumer products.

Virgo PR developed a comprehensive communications strategy designed to accomplish both objectives: position Carolindica as a knowledgeable industry voice on hemp regulation and advocacy while creating consistent opportunities for its products to reach consumers through earned media.

At the same time, Virgo worked closely with the Carolindica team to create greater alignment between its corporate communications and consumer marketing. This included developing messaging frameworks that could translate across media interviews, business communications, product marketing, social media and other consumer-facing channels to ensure the brand presented a consistent and credible story regardless of the audience.

What Virgo Did

Built a Two-Track Media Strategy. Virgo developed complementary PR strategies targeting two distinct audiences: policymakers, industry stakeholders and business media on one side, and consumers and lifestyle audiences on the other.

The regulatory and advocacy strategy focused on positioning Carolindica representatives as informed voices in the national and state-level conversation around hemp policy. As proposed restrictions and potential bans threatened the industry, Virgo proactively identified opportunities for Carolindica to provide expert commentary and perspective to reporters covering the issue.

The consumer strategy focused on generating product discovery through gift guides, seasonal roundups, lifestyle coverage, product features and trend stories. This created opportunities to put Carolindica products directly in front of relevant consumers around major cultural and retail moments including 4/20, 7/10, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and the holidays.

Established Carolindica as a Voice on Hemp Policy. As the regulatory environment evolved, Virgo helped Carolindica become part of the broader conversation rather than simply reacting to legislative developments.

Virgo identified and pursued media opportunities around proposed state and federal hemp restrictions, helping secure commentary and feature coverage in outlets including Forbes, Newsweek, Fox Business, Axios Raleigh, CBS 17, the Charlotte Observer, The News & Observer, Yahoo News, Marijuana Moment, CRB Monitor and others.

The strategy also expanded beyond reactive commentary. Virgo supported the development and placement of opinion-driven content that positioned Carolindica and its leadership as advocates for responsible regulation and the preservation of a legitimate hemp industry.

Created a Consistent Corporate and Consumer Messaging Framework. With Carolindica communicating across a range of audiences and platforms, Virgo worked closely with the team to establish clearer messaging architecture.

Corporate messaging emphasized Carolindica's expertise, industry experience, commitment to responsible hemp commerce and perspective on regulation. Consumer messaging translated those same core brand attributes into approachable, product-focused language designed to educate and engage customers.

This framework helped ensure that media commentary, executive communications, product positioning, social content and marketing materials reinforced one another rather than operating as disconnected messages.

Generated High-Visibility Consumer Product Coverage. Virgo developed a proactive product-placement strategy designed to capitalize on editorial opportunities throughout the year.

Carolindica products were included in numerous consumer-facing gift guides and lifestyle features, including coverage in Forbes, GreenState, Cannabis Now, Hip-Hop Wired and other national outlets.

Seasonal pitching helped connect specific products and product categories with moments when consumers were actively searching for recommendations, from Valentine's Day and 4/20 to Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween and holiday gifting.

Leveraged Carolindica Leadership for Thought Leadership. Virgo also created opportunities to elevate Carolindica executives as industry and business voices, including profile and thought leadership opportunities that went beyond individual products. This approach helped build recognition for the people behind the brand while reinforcing Carolindica's credibility as an established participant in the hemp industry.

The Results

Virgo's integrated approach generated 119 tracked earned media placements across national, regional, trade and consumer publications.

The Impact

Rather than treating regulatory advocacy and consumer PR as separate initiatives, Virgo built a communications strategy where the two reinforced one another.

Carolindica gained visibility as both a consumer brand and a credible industry voice while developing a unified messaging foundation that could scale across media, corporate communications, marketing and consumer channels.

The result was a PR program capable of navigating a rapidly changing regulatory landscape while continuing to generate the product awareness and consumer engagement necessary to grow the brand.
