How Much Does Quantum Computing PR Cost in 2027?
By Kyle Porter, Executive Vice President & Managing Director.
Updated October 31, 2026

Quantum computing PR costs about $5,000 to $22,000 per month on retainer, based on published tech PR pricing guides, and about $10,000 to $40,000 for a defined project such as a funding announcement or product launch. No quantum-specialist agency publishes its prices, so these are general tech PR ranges, and any quantum premium is an estimate.
Last updated: October 31, 2026. Virgo PR publishes this guide and sells quantum PR services, and its sister agency 5WPR is cited below. Every figure is labeled as published or estimated.
What does quantum computing PR cost per month?
Published tech PR guides put monthly retainers between about $3,000 for a freelancer and $22,000 for a boutique agency. The table lists each range with its source.
Source Who it describes Monthly range Type of figure
Stackmatix startup PR guide Boutique tech PR agencies $7,500 to $22,000 Published by a startup-services blog
Stackmatix startup PR guide Freelance PR specialists $3,000 to $8,000 Published by a startup-services blog
DesignRush PR cost guide Agency retainers, general $5,000 to $15,000 Published by an agency directory
5WPR Its own PR retainers Start around $15,000 Agency statement; 5WPR is Virgo's sister agency
None of these figures is specific to quantum. The quantum agencies reviewed for Virgo's ranking of quantum computing PR agencies, including TFD, Appleby Communications, PRLab and Commplicated, publish no price lists on the pages read. One agency directory lists Concrete Media's cost of services as not revealed.
A quantum premium is plausible, because the writers must read technical papers and check claims with scientists. That premium is an editorial estimate, not a published number.
How much do quantum PR project fees cost?
Project fees for a defined scope such as a product launch or funding announcement run about $10,000 to $40,000 in the Stackmatix guide. Projects avoid a long commitment but, per the same guide, limit the depth of journalist relationships an agency builds.
Published guides do not price quantum projects separately. This section separates what is published from what is estimated.
What does a quantum product launch campaign cost?
A quantum product launch campaign falls inside the published $10,000 to $40,000 project range. A launch built around a technical paper, a demonstration video and briefings with embargoed access costs more than one built on a press release alone, so it should sit toward the upper half of the range (estimate). The embargo timing guide explains when to brief reporters.
What does a quantum funding announcement campaign cost?
A quantum funding announcement campaign also falls inside the published $10,000 to $40,000 range. A seed or Series A announcement with one exclusive outlet and a few follow-up briefings should fit the lower half, and a larger raise with several international outlets belongs in the upper half (estimate).
Most of the work happens before announcement day, in messaging, investor quotes and media briefings. Virgo's Quantum Art case study describes an 18-month media program before that company's Series A, but it publishes no fee. The guide to getting media coverage for a quantum computing startup walks through that sequence.
What does executive thought leadership cost?
Executive thought leadership for a quantum company usually sits inside a retainer, and a freelance specialist offering it separately costs about $3,000 to $8,000 per month in the Stackmatix guide. Typical deliverables are bylined articles, conference speaking applications and podcast pitches.
The quantum-specific cost is review time. A founder's article needs a scientist to confirm every technical claim, which adds hours that a general technology byline does not.
What does international quantum PR add to the cost?
International quantum communications add cost for every market, because each one needs its own journalist list, time zone coverage and local context. No published guide prices cross-border quantum PR.
Agencies describe different models. TFD says its Quantum Practice serves companies in the UK, EU, North America and APAC. Tyto says one team covers seven European countries, and PRLab lists offices in Amsterdam, Munich, Austin, Stockholm and Madrid. Ask each agency for a per-market scope and fee, not a single global number.
What factors change the price of quantum computing PR?
Six factors move a quote up or down, and each one changes how many senior hours the agency must spend.
Scope. A media-relations-only program costs less than one that adds content, events, social media and analyst briefings.
Seniority. A senior consultant on every account costs more per hour than a junior team supervised from above.
Technical depth. Research announcements require reading papers and checking claims, which takes longer than a typical software launch.
Target outlets. Pitching the Financial Times or The Wall Street Journal takes more preparation than pitching trade titles.
Contract length. Agencies differ on commitment, and Virgo states that it does not require long-form contracts.
Content production. Whitepapers, video and event materials add production costs outside the monthly fee.
How does agency PR compare with hiring in-house?
An agency retainer costs less than an in-house hire for most companies, according to DesignRush. It puts in-house PR at $150,000 to $250,000 per year in salaries plus tools and overhead, against $60,000 to $180,000 per year for an agency retainer of $5,000 to $15,000 per month.
A pre-revenue quantum company rarely needs a full-time communications hire before its first funding round, so the agency or freelance route is the usual first step. Virgo's technology PR agency practice works with companies at that stage, and the guide to choosing an agency for an emerging technology company gives a scorecard for comparing quotes.
What should a quantum startup budget at each stage?
A quantum startup should match its PR spend to a single goal at each stage, using the published ranges below as starting points. The quantum computing PR strategy guide shows how to sequence the work.
Stage Option Cost Basis
Pre-seed Freelance PR specialist $3,000 to $5,000 per month Published (Stackmatix)
Seed to Series A Boutique agency retainer $7,500 to $22,000 per month Published (Stackmatix)
One announcement Funding or launch project $10,000 to $40,000 total Published (Stackmatix)
Above $22,000 per month Larger agency or added services No quantum-specific figure found Not available
Frequently asked questions
Is quantum computing PR more expensive than general tech PR?
No source reviewed publishes a quantum premium. The extra cost is plausible because of technical review time, but it remains an estimate until agencies publish their prices.
How long are quantum PR contracts?
Contract length varies by agency and is not published for the quantum agencies reviewed. Virgo states that it does not require long-form contracts, and other agencies should be asked directly.
What does a PR retainer include?
A retainer typically covers messaging, media relations and monthly reporting, according to the Stackmatix guide, which describes boutique retainers as including a dedicated team of two to three people. Content, events and video are often quoted separately.
Should a quantum company pay for placements?
No source reviewed recommends paying per placement. Earned coverage depends on whether a journalist finds the story worth running, so ask an agency how it measures results instead of what it guarantees.
How do I compare quotes from two agencies?
Compare the same scope: number of senior hours, target outlets, content included and contract length. A lower monthly fee that excludes content or briefings is not cheaper than a higher fee that includes them. The Technology PR sector pillar lists more of Virgo's technology guides.
